We graduate a lot of music seniors this year.  Oh, dear!! 8th Graders need to really consider high school music- it's a blast!

All musical odds and ends- extra music, lyres, flip folders, spare this and thats- need to be turned in ASAP to Mrs. Brownlee to be put away for next year.

Look for next year's band camp coming up in August.  Also, don't forget to practice this Summer!

Music Teacher Conference

What a weekend!

This past week was KMEA ISW (the Kansas Music Educator's Association In-Service Workshop) and it was A-MAZING!  At the conference I got to listen to several really big 'names' including Bruce Pearson (he writes our band books), Dr. Tim (a wonderful educator, advocate and motivator), Rollo Dilworth (vocal composer and clinician), and Lillie Feierabend (early elementary specialist and writer).  This workshop is  a great time to gather new ideas, meet with other teachers around the state and really get great ideas for how to make PHS the best it can be.  I was thrilled to have such a great time and hope to pass along the enthusiasm!

Setting Goals Can Be Difficult
Achieving Them Can Be Even Harder

Does that mean we shouldn't bother to make goals if there's a good chance we aren't going to make them anyways?  NO!
For instance, my personal goal was to do monthly blog posts here this year.  Well, as you can see I'm a bit behind.  THIS IS NO REASON TO FORGET MY GOAL!  I'll keep trying to meet that goal even though I haven't really succeeded yet.  The only way to succeed is to try.  So I will.

You could even apply this idea to your playing goals!  Whoa!

Growing Our Brains

Brain research shows that the only way to make new and keep old neural connections (the roadways for information to travel in your brain) is to TRY HARD THINGS.  This year we're focusing on TRYING as class.  Trying new or difficult things will only make us better and stronger in the future... so keep TRYING, even if you don't get it right now!

Junior High Participation Grading

10/4/2016

Heads up!  There is a new way for Mrs. B to keep track of JH in-class participation.  In order to keep participation grades as fair and equal as possible, Mrs. Brownlee is keeping a daily tally of 'strikes' for each student.  Few students are earning strikes, but Mrs. B did some reflecting and decided that keeping a daily sheet would really help make a picture for parents who have questions about participation.

Conferences are right around the corner, but if you ever have any questions regarding policy or grading DON'T hesitate to contact Mrs. B @ jessicabrownlee@phtigers.net

    Mrs. Brownlee

My hobbies include playing with my children, singing in the church choir and reading.  When I have free time I like to visit family, play board games and sew.  When I have "extra time" I also play guitar, craft and paint.
